"In his Ägyptische Chronologie Eduard Meyer expressed the hope that the Papyrus no. 1874 at Turin, which contained the Canon of Kings, might some day be examined both by a technical expert and also by a specialist in hieratic. That hope has been fulfilled. Hugo Ibscher shortly before the last war remounted the fragments, and Sir Alan Gardiner on three separate visits to Turin made made for his own personal use a careful copy of the papyrus... Knowing the importance of Sir Alan Gardiner's transcription to all scholars,... the Committee of Management has thought it fitting to publish this volume in commemoration of Sir Alan's eightieth birthday..." Inside front cover contains an original photograph of the Great Sphinx of Giza with pyramid pasted down, dated July 1957. The front free endpaper contains handwritten data on reviews published and data on the first three dynasties. Binding with some light wear along edges and rubbed. Inside covers and endpapers with light foxing and damp-staining. Binding in overall good-, interior in very good condition., Printed for the Griffith Institute at the University Press, 1959, 2.75<

Cloth, Gebraucht, sehr guter Zustand, [ED: 1], Griffith Institute The Royal Canon of Turin Alan H. Gardiner Papyrus The Royal Canon of Turin First Edition Illustrated|Archaeology & Antiquities, A first edition of this facsimile reprint of papyrus number 1874, a list of Egyptian kings compiled by the Egyptians themselves. A first edition of this facsimile reprint of the most comprehensive list of Egyptian kings that they themselves compiled, with an introduction by Egyptologist, philologist, and linguist Alan H. Gardiner. Found on the verso of the fragmented papyrus number 1874 of the Museo Egizio in Turin is the most comprehensive list of Egyptian kings believed to be intended as an official administrative reference aid providing us with a rare insight into the Egyptians own view and awareness of their past. The list has become the corner-stone of all chronological schemes for Egyptian history before the Ramessides, although Egyptologists range in their attitude towards the information provided in the document. The copy previously belonged to the East Riding County Library, and therefore has an institutional sticker to the front pastedown, and 091 marked to the spine. In the publisher's original brown cloth binding. Externally, generally smart. Rubbed to the boards and the spine. Lightly bumped to the head and tail of the spine, and to the extremities, causing a little discolouration of the cloth. Internally, firmly bound. Aside from some light offsetting to the front and rear endpapers, pages are bright and clean. Very Good. , Oxford, [PU: Oxford University Press]<
