Ever since Mrs Pooter's Diary burst on a delighted world in 1983,Keith Waterhouse,literary sleuth and shining hope of the massed ranks of Pooter devotees,has been diligently pursuing his researches in the archives of The Laurels,Brickfield Terrace,Holloway. Among an accumulation of receipts,newspaper cuttings,omnibus tickets and back numbers of the Exchange and Mart,in the very japanned tin trunk as yielded up the slim bundle of schoolroom composition books containing Carrie's journal,Waterhouse has now unearthed an important cache of Charles Pooter's letters. Copied on a patent 'Ee-zee-kopi' jellygraph device,and carefully filed away for posterity,the correspondence covers the same period as 'The Diary Of A Nobody.' Thus it contains such historic (and previously unpublished) letters as the series written to the editor of the Blackfriars Bi-weekly News over the misspelling of Pooter's name in a report of the Mansion House Ball,and the satirical missive sent to the laundress (Who unknown to Pooter could not read) about the loss of some of his handkerchiefs. With annotations by Waterhouse,'The Collected Letters of a Nobody.(Including Mr Pooter's Advice To His Son)',another brilliant footnote to that humorous Victorian classic 'The Diary of a Nobody.',is illustrated by John Jensen.
