[EAN: 9780688046859], [PU: New York: William Morrow and Company, Inc.], Jacket, 8vo. 272 pp. Quarter bound in grey paperboards over a cream cloth spine, with cherry-red endpapers and pastedowns. The title, the author's name, and the publisher's device are silver-stamped to the spine. An inscription from the author to Marilew Kogan, the wife to famous Chicago writer Herman Kogan, is marked in blue ink to the half-title page. The inscription reads, "To Mloo, with great affection, Jack Fuller." The top- and bottom-edges of all paper boards are a few shades faded. The corners are sharp, the hinges are strong, and the text is clean and sharp throughout. The pictorial dust-wrapper is in Near Fine condition and retains the publisher's original price of $16.95 to the top-right corner of the front flap. The top-edge of the spine panel bears petite chipping, the top- and bottom edges of the rear panel are lightly toned, and the top-right and bottom-right corners of the front panel are slightly rubbed. A great copy from the Herman Kogan Library. Herman Kogan (November 6, 1914 - March 8, 1989) was a WW2 combat correspondent who subsequently spent more than fifty years as a working journalist covering Chicago, many of those years with the Chicago Sun-Times. Mr. Kogan worked for years for The Chicago Tribune, he served as drama critic for The Chicago Sun-Times, where also served as editor of its Book Week feature, and he was also cultural news editor for The Chicago Daily News. He authored 16 books celebrating the personalities and institutions of Chicago, including “Give the Lady What She Wants: The Story of Marshall Field & Company†(Rand McNally, 1952); “Lords of the Levee†(Bobbs-Merrill, 1943); “Yesterday's Chicago†(E.A. Seeman, 1976); ''The Great EB: The Story of the Encylopaedia Britannica,'' (University of Chicago Press, 1958); and, with Lloyd Wendt, ''Big Bill of Chicago,'' about Chicago mayor, William Hale Thompson.<

NY: William Morrow & Company, Inc., 1985. First Edition . Hardcover. Fine in Near Fine Dust Jacket/Near Fine. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall. Dust Jacket Illustration By Rafal Olbinski. 274pp. White quarter-cloth, gray paper boards, silver gilt spine lettering, dark red endpapers. Dust jacket price 16.95. SIGNED BY AUTHOR to half-title page. Third novel. Jack Fuller had a long career as a Chicago Tribune newspaperman, rising through the ranks from a 16-year-old reporter to President of the Tribune Publishing Company, along the way winning a Pulitzer prize for editorial writing as well as writing six novels, four of them espionage/crime/mystery thrillers, one combining the elements of jazz and mystery, and one about the Vietnam War. His novels have been compared to Nelson Algren, Graham Greene, John le Carré, Norman Mailer and James Jones. " 'Mass' offers fast-paced action and a deeply moving story. FBI agent Henry Moll has just begun to rebuild a career destroyed by his son's involvement in the radical political counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s. Reporter Stan Majewski's son David has turned to drugs, sex, and violence. Both fathers are engaged in occupations that leave little room for illusion about men's motives or the possibility of communication, but they are tormented by lost dreams, the memory of their sons' earlier promise. Now Stan and Henry are investigating the assassination of a respected Soviet defector, and David is implicated. 'Mass' is a thriller with something extra. Smoothly plotted and exceptionally well written, it should appeal to the most discriminating reader." - David Keymer, Library Journal. Book is unblemished; dust jacket has some minor shelfwear to spine extremeties and to edges, but very bright and fully intact. Scarce signed., William Morrow & Company, Inc., 1985<
