Lacking the frontispiece portrait of Wallace but with the folding colour map (this also featuring the hotel stamp on the verso) and 37 text figures. Some light wear to the cloth, else very good. Wallace's letter to Darwin from the far east in 1858 led to their collaboration and prompted Darwin to publish "The Origin of Species" a year later. This work updates his theories for a society where evolution "is now universally accepted as the order of nature in the organic world" (Preface).<
