The author has experienced many facts of life in Israel. He immigrated to Israel in 1961 to a Galilee kibbutz. He later became a founding citizen of the desert town of Arad, living there for almost a decade. He started out as an agricultural laborer, continued building walls and paths in Arad, before becoming the town's tourist officer and, later, public relations director of the newly-established University of the Negev in Beersheba. After moving to Motza Elite, a village in the Jerusalem hills, he worked as a reporter for Israel Radio and later joined the Jerusalem Post as a senior feature writer. He has published in several papers and journals including the New York Times, Newsweek, Commentary, National Jewish Monthly, and Ariel. He has broadcast for the BBC, CBC, Radio Telefis Eirrean, and National Public Radio. In 1994 he was the founding managing editor of Palestine-Israel Journal. He has published nine books about Israel, Jewish history, and Israeli-Palestinian relations, seven of them in the U.S. He has been active in three Israeli NGOs, which foster Israeli-Palestinian coexistence and cooperation.
