[EAN: 9781741965988], Near Fine, [PU: Pier 9, Australia], Triumph and Tragedy Paperback¿ 1 Nov 2010 by Alexander Canduci. The Immortal Emperors provides a superbly illustrated, chronological history of all the Roman Emperors who ever ruled. This book begins in 27 BCE with Augustus, Emperor of Rome, and follows the various manifestations of the empire through to Byzantine Constantinople and to Germany, ending with the fall of the Holy Roman Empire and the last (Holy) Roman Emperor, Francis II, in 1806. It is comprehensive in coverage, including both 'official' emperors and usurpers. Each chapter looks at a specific period of Roman imperial history, focusing not only on the emperors' reigns, but also on the rulers as people, discussing their personality and motivations and bringing them to life for a modern audience. Key points: history of empires, especially subjects related to the Roman Empire, are currently very popular; this strong theme spans and links two thousand years of historical personalities and events; other titles about the Roman Empire stop about 500 AD, rather than continuing to discuss later incarnations of the empire; this book is therefore original in its approach Near Fine.<
