This book examines a cast of global actors left out of traditional studies of international politics. It generates a theoretically informed view of the relationships between an emerging global civil society -- partly manifested in transnational social movements -- and national and international political institutions. Case studies explore specific transnational movement roles in: -- Mobilizing transnational resources into national conflicts (cases in Sri Lanka, Argentina, and Ethiopia), -- Generating constituencies for multilaterial policy (cases on nuclear disarmament and the environment), and-- Targeting international institutions (cases of the European Union, Human Rights Commission, and the Law of the Sea negotiations)-- John D. McCarthy and Chadwick Alger assess international relations and social movement theory. Media > Book, [PU: Syracuse University Press]<
