London: Royal Geographical Society, 1928. 9 pages. Plus two fold-out sketch maps, measuring approximately 8 x 12.5 inches (20 x 32cm) and 12.5 x 15 inches (32 x 38cm). Original condition with blue wrappers, titles to front, and containing all the ads. This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. An interesting report on the Gilbert "Charte" of North America and Arctic Regions. Gilbert's map seemed to shed light on his objectives for the journey to Newfoundland and subsequently towards the mainland coast. Gilbert's expedition ended in a fatal shipwreck off Sable Island. Narrative includes 2 fold-out maps, one being the Gilbert hemisphere map from a North-Polar view showing Japan and the Asian continent, but no land mass between the Arctic Circle and Japan. Also included is a representation of a section of the Ortelius map dated 1564 showing Eastern North America, the Caribbean, the Gulf of Mexico, and the southern tip of Greenland in the Labrador Sea. The original map from which the images were taken, was purchased by a Dr. Rosenbach from the Sotheby's auction April 23-24, 1928 and was inscribed by Gilbert. .
