Twenty-four of Gretry&#039;s operas-comiques are given a chapter each, with plot summary, critical discussion, summary of different versions and history of performance in Paris. Author Biography David Charlton is Professor of Music History at Royal Holloway, University of London. He is the author of Gr try and the Growth of Op ra-Comique (Cambridge, 1986), E. T. A.
