It is of historic importance. As William Morgan shows in his illuminating account, Bucks County's cultural and historical legacy is infinitely greater than it 600 square mile size would suggest. It is one of a handful of the more than 3000 counties in the United States that commands growing international interest. The name evokes images of William Penn, of the American Revolution, of great landscape painters, of summer theater - and of the wonderful fieldstone houses and barns and other forms of early architecture that are the signature of this historic county; and therefore the main protagonists in Mr. Siskind's revealing pictorial record.
