The main factors that are studied include Smoking habits, social factors such as Family conditions, education, socioeconomic class, type of job, personal factors viz. sedentary lifestyle, prayers, hypertension, diabetes, Lipids and yoga. Multivariate analysis and logistic Regression are used to identify the risk factors of importance. The book is written in a simple and lucid Style and clearly outlines the design of research, particularly in human behavior. It highlights that coronary heart disease (CH D) has emerged as a major health problem in most communities, thereby affecting many people in their prime and often resulting in Death or disability. It reveals that rural population has a lower prevalence of coronary heart Diseases compared to that of Urban population. Also, Indian villages are relatively less influenced by recent social changes and their risk Factor profile is quite different from the cities. Higher education, regular participation in stress reducing prayers and moderate Physical activities are the most important factors to protect population against CHD. In view of higher smoking and Alcohol intake amongst the rural males, prevalence of Hypertension as well as CHD is fairly common.
