Winner of a multitude of international awards and short-listed for the Man Booker Prize for Fiction and the IMPAC Dublin Literary Award. 3) "How to Get Filthy Rich in Rising Asia" - Riverhead (2013) - Narrated in the second person, it tells the story of the protagonist's journey from impoverished rural boy to tycoon in an unnamed contemporary city in "rising Asia," and of his pursuit of the nameless "pretty girl" whose path continually crosses but never quite converges with his. Winner of the International Literature Award. 4) "Discontent and Its Civilizations: Dispatches from Lahore, New York and London" - Riverhead (2014) - traces the fracture lines generated by a decade and a half of seismic change, from the "war on terror" to the struggles of individuals to maintain humanity in the rigid face of ideology or the indifferent face of globalization. 5) "Exit West" - Riverhead (2017) - Dated 3//7/2017 the date of its release! Recounts the story of the migrants Saeed and Nadia, who leave an unnamed country in the midst of a civil war and journey to Greece, England and eventually the United States in an effort to invent new lives for themselves. The world in "Exit West" is, in many respects, an extrapolation of the world we live in now, with wars like the one in Syria turning cities into war zones; with political crises, warp-speed technological changes, and growing tensions between nativists and migrants threatening to upend millions of lives. Named to the MAN Booker Prize 2017 Shortlist! While at Princeton University, Hamid took two Creative Writing courses - one with Joyce Carol Oates and the other with Toni Morrison. Hamid was born in Lahore, Pakistan, went with his family when he was three to live in California, then back to Pakistan, then to Princeton University, then Harvard Law, then as a management consultant in New York and London, and now back to Lahore, Pakistan where he currently resides.
