Indira grew up as an activist, organising at the age of twelve a "monkey army" of children who ran errands and eavesdropped on conversations on behalf of Mahatma Ghandi. There is a photograph of her at that age with Ghandi, and it is also explained that the man she married, Feroze Ghandi, was unrelated to the charismatic leader.
